What to Expect in therapy

 K-Laser Therapy at Woodlawn

K-laser can be beneficial as a non-invasive pain management solution for chronic pain due to arthritis, sprains, strains and other joint mobility problems instead of oral medications. It can also significantly reduce healing time by strengthening injured tissue and supporting normal tissue for less scar formation during healing.

For faster recovery, we include K-Laser therapy in treatment of bone and muscle injuries. We also recommend it for conditions as wide-ranging as tooth extractions, feline acne and post-surgical hematomas. Lacerations and surgical incisions often benefit greatly from K-laser, and it can also be beneficial for hip dysplasia, neck and back pain, and burn injuries.

What is K-Laser?

K-Laser is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal. The effects of laser energy include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling.

K-Laser therapy interacts with tissues at the cellular level, drawing oxygen and nutrients to the affected area, increasing metabolic activity within the cell. This stimulates increased production of cellular energy (ATP) in active tissue. The benefits include increased cellular function and tissue repair.

The painless application of laser energy also promotes healing by reducing inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain. As the injured tissue returns to normal, pain is relieved and normal function restored.

Treatments are cumulative in nature. The length and frequency of treatment varies with your pet’s condition. Although you may notice improvement after the first treatment, most pets require several treatments (3 to 8) for optimal benefits.

We offer a multi-treatment therapy including 3 to 8 minutes of treatment per affected area for a specific number of scheduled appointments. We’ll discuss the treatment plan during your visit.

Side effects and associated risks

During more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers for pets and humans across the world, very few side effects have been reported. Occasionally, some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment.
